Frequently Asked Questions

Are we insured?

Arrow Down

This is perhaps one of the most important things that you can ask a moving company before you hire them. Every moving company should have a license number that was issued by the United States Department of Transportation. If you are hiring a local moving company, then they should also be licensed by the state. Every state has its unique licensing requirements. To check New York State licensing regulations through the Commissioner of Transportation.

What are our rates?

Arrow Down

Rates can vary greatly from company to company. Some companies will charge you an hourly rate. Other companies will charge you based on the number of belongings that you have. A moving company should provide you with a written estimate before any work is done.

The estimate should not only include charges, but they should also include the method of payment. You will be required to sign the written estimate, so make sure that you understand all of the charges before you sign.

Do we offer storage services?

Arrow Down

Several things can delay your move. You may have to change your moving date at the last minute. That is why you want to select a company that offers storage services. If a moving company offers storage services, then they can pick the items up for you and drop them off at the facility.

What does the estimate include and not include?

Arrow Down

Keep in mind that your moving contract estimate may not include everything. Moving estimates typically include the packing of mattresses, wrapping and protecting furniture, transportation, loading and unloading services, and assembling and disassembling items. However, there are several additional services that might not be included in the estimate. These can include additional packing of remaining loose items, shipping of an automobile, moving or servicing any major appliances, and any storage or holding costs after the delivery window. If you think you’ll need these services, then we recommend asking the moving company about this as soon as possible.

What are your non-allowables?

Arrow Down

Not everything will be allowed onto the moving truck. Your moving company should provide you with a list of non-allowables, but if they don’t, be sure to ask. Items that are typically not allowed on a moving truck include anything that is flammable and hazardous, such as poisons, scuba tanks, propane tanks, lamp oil, matches and aerosols. Perishable items, such as refrigerated food and plants, are often not allowed on moving trucks as well. In addition, sentimental and important belongings simply do not belong on a moving truck. These may include photo albums, cash, birth certificates or heirloom jewelry. All of these items should be moved by you personally. For a full list of typical non-allowables, check here.

Am I protected against loss or damage?

You are, but how much protection you have and its cost to you depends upon the valuation coverage you selected initially.
