Q: How far in advance should I book my mover?
A: You should book your mover as soon as possible. The last week of every month is usually the busiest moving time. The summer months are very, very busy months with people trying to move when their kids are out of school.

Q: What do I need to do before the move?
A. You need to go through and get rid of everything that you do not want and are not taking and throw it out. The movers do need to be able to get to the items being moved easily. This means clear a path to these items as well as the items being cleared off. Remember the more organized you are the smoother the move will go.

Q: Can I pack myself and how far in advance should I start?
A. Of course you can. But, be aware of the potential problems. For instance, valuation will not pay out on goods packed by the owner unless the exterior of the box is damaged. Also, clearly mark the contents of the box and what room it will be going to (ie. Master Bedroom, Living Room). The sooner you start packing the better. When you start early it allows you to do small amounts at a time it allows you to sort through and help you decide what you want and do not want. Not only that but it helps you to see if you need more packing supplies than you originally thought. It makes it easier on both of us when you start earlier.

Q: Can I leave clothes in the drawers?
A: This is a tricky question. You will need to remove anything that is fragile that may break inside the drawer. You will also need to empty the drawers if it is already a heavy dresser, which is often the case.

Q: Are you insured?
A: The NYSDOT has regulated the moving industry. What you are given is 30 cents per pound per article for local moves and 60 cents per pound per article for long distance moves. You do have the option of purchasing additional insurance. For local moves it costs $12.50 and covers up to $2500.00 in valuation. It is $5 for every thousand after that. For long distance moves it is $25.00 and covers up to $5000.00 in valuation and is also $5 for every thousand after that. Please contact us for an insurance guideline pamphlet.

Q: Is there anything I can do to make sure I am prepared for my move?
A: Make sure that your belongings are packed. Beds are disassembled, freezer/refrigerator is emptied and defrosted. Make sure all appliances are disconnected (gas). If you live in a building that requires elevator use, make sure that you make arrangements to have the elevator reserved.
